Anyone here knowledgeable about the telecom sector (other than mobile telephony)? Specifically, about the type of business Tata Communications does? It's close to its 5-year low and maybe worth a thought.

Mittal sahib has been very very very keen to somehow or other get rid of the cash in books, and now he seems to have managed that.
dont like bharti at all, esp. the promoters.
My own (very) personal opinion!

post this deal it will be difficult to evaluate Bharati due to operation being spread in so many countries.. at least small investors like us would find it difficult to get hang of what is happening in African Countries..one has to depend on management for updates, quarterly nos and analyst reports..

I've made a lot of money on Bharti and it was my first multibagger..so in a way i might be biased, but i think they have the best operating model, and would be around when consolidation happens in the indian markets. They are looking at increasing their cashflow by the buyouts and grow their market share globally and hence would have cash available to buy out indian players as and when they falter. So this is definately the best bet in the indian telecom space.

But isn't the deal expensive, considered they are paying almost 9 times EBIDTA and most of these operations are making losses.

Yeah it could be, but the thing is Zain already had rejected an offer in the same range. Its more about access to newer territories, and once consolidation happens, the strongest players have a franchise for a long time. But you never know and it could well turn out be an error in judgement at that price.
