Hi Guys,

I am looking for India listed companies that own Master Franchise for a foreign business. As much as we would like to, there is no way to play McDonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut, Baskin Robbins or other successful concepts as they are not listed or are in private hands.

An example in point is Page Industries that owns a valuable franchise for Jockey undergarments or Indage Restaurants that owns franchise for Nandos restaurants (this is successful in South Africa and dozen other countries but stock is another story).

I guarantee of only a few of them can be picked, they can create immense wealth over the next decade.

Keep ideas flowing.

Regards

Amit

Hero Honda?

All FMCG MNC companies too - the only difference between Page Industries and Colgate is that the promoter ownership (which is largely irrelevant to an investor) is Indian & Foreign respectively.

Thanks smartcat and prashant. Good to know about Domino's ! will do some digging. Hero Honda has been great in past..and can be in future too.

I am looking for retail stories that can replicate franchise model as in like Titan, Reebok etc..

http://www.franchisebusiness.in/

www.franchiseindia.com/

I had a wicked thought. To do some research of strong US brands and search across Brazil, Russia, China, Argentina etc.. emerging market and find if McDonalds, Subway are listed there or are in partnership with local player that is listed.

Keep up the digging

Thanks again

Idea is to create that list and keep it handy for players that have potential and have black ink.

Here is another idea:
Shoppers Stop is another which has tie up with British retailer MotherCare: Mothercare had revenues of about 6000 Crores INR last year.

Hi Guys,

My wife has gone back to India for a a couple of weeks today so I will be relatively free on weekends :)

Lets do this in a more organized way. This weekend I will come up with 15 strong American Brands that have grown through franchising, feel free to add German, British, French etc. to that list.  I will publish this list on google docs. Then we should attack one market at a time, say China to begin with as it has potential, then we should move to next one as in Argentina, Brazil, Russia etc. That way we will be able to get to know websites/sources in a market collectively and comb through franchise opportunities. Although there may be local franchise opportunities but lets leave that out of scope for the moment.

Bharti Walmart is private deal not with Bharti Airte.

Trent and Tesco should in that list.

McDonalds has partnered with China Petroleum and Chemical to open McDonalds in its 30,000 petrol pumps and is listed but its already multi billion $ (77 Billion $) company so we can look at it too but its not exciting.

Will prepare something this weekend

Regards
