I heard this anecdote about Ramakrishna Paramahamsa on the radio.

Once a woman came to Ramakrishna and said her son is fond of sweets and he overeats and is not stopping this habit, inspite of repeat advice to do so and he says "if swamiji tells me to stop, I will stop it". So she says to Ramakrishna Paramahamsa to tell her son to stop his habit. So he says to her, fine, bring him to me tomorrow at my ashram. The next day she arrived to the ashram with her son and Ramakrishna did not advice anything to the boy but said to the woman to come the next day. Again, she did the same the next day and swamiji asked her to come the next day. This continued for almost 30 days and on 31st day he said to the boy to stop overeating sweets and he immediately agreed. The woman thanked Swamiji and left the ashram.

Swamiji's disciples were surprised with this behaviour of Swamiji and asked him what made him to wait for 30 days before giving his advice and to this he said" I too am fond of sweets. I first wanted to control my desire to eat sweets before I could advice the boy and that took me 30 days"
Regards,
Nagaraj

Jonathan Livingston Seagull

This is a story for people who follow their dreams and make

their own rules; a story that has inspired people for decades.

For most seagulls, life consists simply of eating and surviving. Flying is just

a means of finding food. However, Jonathan Livingston Seagull is no

ordinary bird. For him, flying is life itself. Against the conventions of

seagull society, he seeks to find a higher purpose and become the

best at doing what he loves.

This is a fable about the importance of making the most of our

lives, even if our goals run contrary to the norms of our flock,

tribe or neighbourhood. Through the metaphor of flight,

Jonathan’s story shows us that, if we follow our

dreams, we too can soar.

'It is only when you combine sound intellect with emotional discipline that you get rational behavior.' – WB.
