Dear Basant,

If you could have a look at Dollex Industries which is into manufacturing Ethanol. I do not know much about this company except that I am told they are planning big in Ethanol production.

I do not have my own opinion on Ethanol, because too much depends on Regulators and God knows what happens when there is supply glut.

It appears that one the biggest beneficiaries of this boom would be Machinery suppliers like Praj or Alfa Laval.

Here is a take from Warren Buffet on Ethanol:
I don’t know enough to figure out what the return on capital of an ethanol-related investment might be over the next 5 or 10 years. It’s easier to predict how many people will be drinking Coke or eating candy. I don’t know anything about the government regulation of ethanol production and use and how that might change. But I know it’s easy to raise money for ethanol-related investments lately. It’s a hot area. That’s usually not a good sign. My son is the head of the ethanol board for the state of Nebraska. If he starts getting richer than I am, then I’ll be interested. There’s no question interest in ethanol will grow. But agri processing businesses tend to have low returns on capital. I don’t see how you gain a big competitive advantage.

Well EquityBuff, I got to know about Buffet very late in my life (only 2 years back, I'm 40 now). I wish I could have known about him when I was younger in 20s.

Since that time, my whole outlook changed, not only towards investments, but also towards life. For me, he is a legend, God-like figure (by the way, I'm an Atheist). I have highest regard and respect for this gentleman who has donated huge sum recently to the Gates Foundation!

Even if we try to adopt few of of his thoughts in everyday life, it will make a profound change for sure. My family members often pull my leg for being such a staunch Buffet fan.

Since last 2 years I have been reading whatever I lay hands on about  Buffet: books, articles, references, net sites etc. Most of his teachings and preachings are through witty remarks and anecdotes.

I strongly recommend reading his annual reports, letters to shareholders available for free download from his company website: http://www.berkshirehathaway.com - http://www.berkshirehathaway.com  (Look at the simplicity of his webpages design, mind you it is a Multi-Billion Dollar empire)

Dear Kulman,

Even I have the highest respect and admiration for the great man Mr. Warren Buffet. Not only is he the greatest investor of all time but he is also a great philanthropist. No matter how rich a person is, it takes a heart of platinum studded with diamonds, rubies and pearls to donate the kind of money Mr. Buffet donated to the Gates foundation. Truly a remarkable human being !!

Kindly do us a favour and post one quote of Mr. Buffet everyday. This can be started as a seperate topic/section for example "Great Quotes from Great Investors". We can all learn a great deal from these quotes.

Warm Regards
Equity Buff

Dear EquityBuff

Well, let me try.

But it is more appropriate if they are used in the right context. It makes more impact.

What do you feel, Basant jee?

I thought about that but then when it comes in the context it makes a greater impact. Just see what is good. This was just an opinion.

Reetesh jee

You asking me "let age not be a factor?"...

see what Buffet said when asked: What advice would you give a young person who’s interested in investing?

WB: I got started when I was 7. I wasted my life before that.

Kulman --- i would like to request you also start a new thread on quotes of Buffet as I seem to miss the pearls which you give us.. if they are on the stocks page as i generally dont go there.
You are also requested to quote him as and when the need arises.
Buffet is also a genius like ED

You could Quote Buffet like i do for Ed Seykota.

Oh, so it was you!

That's one of my most favourite lines!

One I like the most in Hindi/Urdu is a sheyr from Shakeel Badauni:

SAB KARISHMAAT-E-TASAVVUR* HAIN "SHAKEEL"
WARNA AATA HAIN, NA JAATA HAIN KOI !!!

By the way, I am a great ghazal fan and worship MEER, GHALIB, SHAKEEL, ZAFAR with the same intensity as Buffet. So, any ghazal fans out there...please get back to me
