Out of PIIGS, three teams playing in this WCup: Spain, Greece & Portugal. If any of them wins the final, it could be the turning point for global economy.
Another theory doing rounds is that the Cup has been alternating between South Amercian and European countries.

Interesting theory about PIIGS Kulman. In fact there is evidence to support the fact that the economies of the countries hosting or winning mega spectacles like Olympics and World Cup get a big boost due to the overall rise in optimism of their populations.
All the PIIGS except Ireland are in the fray and at least 3 of them (Italy, Portugal & Spain) have very strong teams with a realistic chance of grabbing the title.
About the fact that the cup is usually won by the country from the host continent, all the participating PIIGS are geographically very close to Africa.
So now please quickly advise us how to buy index funds investing in IBEX-35, S&P-MIB and PSI-20.

Argentina. Potent attacking combination of Messi, Milito and Tevez. Add Maradona's jamai aguerro and it completes a great attacking lineup.

BRAZIL
BRAZIL
ARGENTINA

So now it is turn of ARGENTINA.

Plus maradona has won the world cup as a player and would very much want to win it as a coach to complete a double.
Defensively also they are usually more solid as compared to brazil.

Nah...Brazil's defence consists of Lucio and Micon..the inter milan defenders who won the champions league for Morinho....Probably the best defence combinationd doing the rounds now...Besides Brazil is the only country who has won the WC outside host continent (USA-94)..However I have a feeling this is going to be Argentina's cup..

I have been watching most of the matches/highlights of the world cup and except korea and argentina, most of the teams seem to be lacking the spark or are yet not off the mark.
From whatever I saw from Messi, he could be a player to watch. Amazing ball control and passing skills.

I would bet for Argentina & Spain as they have a good team. The only problem in the FIFA World Cup is that most of the players play very little together as a team as they are playing for different clubs spread across the globe having altogether a different style of soccer.

Currently the teams are playing pretty defensive and the co-ordination among players also lack, as they don't play too much with each other as national team.
Low scoring and not spectators delight now, hopefully will improve as go along.

In the early phase, the mantra is not to lose points in order to make sure of qualifications for knockout phase.
But this year it seems the gap between the quality of the high and low ranked teams has reduced drastically. I saw how Brazil were made to toil by North Korea which is the lowest rank team to qualify for the finals ever.
Even the star players seem jaded or out of match practice. To me Messi was the only player to sparkle among most of the superstars I saw. Defence wise, Brazil and Ivory coast look rock solid. Mind u both teams are most known for their attacking flair

Brazil doesnt play Samba because Dunga wont allow them to. He is a strict coach and organised the team well, so that you wont see the pure samba you used to watch. And usually Brazil goes into samba only from the third game... Thats what we see in all FIFA...

Italy face the ignominy of reigning champions exiting in the first round of World cup, having lost to slovakia by 3-2.
I watched the match and most of the Italian players looked very lethargic and jaded. They were very slow to chase balls and defending at times was woeful. I guess they deserved and were destined to lose.

England defensively were a miserable side. And Germans with a much younger side struck repeated blows from counter attacks.

Unlucky as well given the kind of error on their equalizer. Next match between Argentina / Germany will be like finals (given the only 2 teams who have impressed so far in the world cup).

Germans are historically very dangerous with their counter attacks and they have proved it from time to time. England's defence was weak and so was of Germany. Would be difficult for Germans to defend against the attacking Argentines.

Germans are highly susceptible to pressure !!! As seen from the later first half and early second half of england-germany matches, eventhough they did recover after England has gone into defensing mode after... Have to see how they respond to Argentinian attackers

Argentina defence also looks dodgy. So Argentina vs Germany would boil down to which team has the better attacking ability and I think midfield domination will be a crucial area in this match for either team to win it.

Yeah but Argentina makes for it through their all-through-the-game attacks. Considering game tactics, I think Clinsmann scores against Maradona. Argentinian game is Messy-centric, most teams defense is planned for him. And most of the time he turns out to be the goal-maker rather than the goal-scorer, and that is the point with Argentina.

Correct sir. They missed on some opportunities. Brazil's goal-keeper Julio Ceaser and their defense are worth mentioning. From my part, I just love watching them play, its so addictive. Though those skills doesnt show much in this world cup. Today's Spain - Portugal match may be worth watching...

With World Cup in progress, some basic simple facts that you've just got to know.
Why football is played for 45 minutes in each half?
Those who thought of this must have lots of time
Why people play football for 45 minutes, not 30 minutes or 1 hour?
Even the sports scientist and some of the senior players could not give the right answer.
In that confusing situation one person came up with a reasonable answer.
He said......." The reason people play this game for 45 minutes is...
There are 2 teams and there are 11 players in each team.
Each player brings his own "2 balls".
So in total there are 44 balls.
There is one ball on the ground itself. Thus the grand total is 45.
Question Answered !!!
Sometimes there is extra time of 2 mins; these are the referee's balls!

What an unbelievable end to the Ghana v Uruguay match. My sympathies to Asamoh Gyan, to turn from potential hero to zero in one second must have really hurt.

Germany were brilliant in their decimation of Argentina!! Maradona thought Mueller was a ballboy in one of press confernces in the past... German Ace Striker introduced himself to the Argentina Coach by scoring within first 5 minutes
Spain versus Paraguay was such a letdown... Spain Cheated, they had the goalpost playing for them too Imagine the ball hit the goalpost thrice before it went in..
Germany will reach the final for sure now.. All my previous calls have failed
This world cup has shown that football is a team game and individual brilliance could not stand against teamwork...

ya i think brasil were just over the top a little bit... the got really frustrated... and the frustration brought the downfall...
spain becomes a strong contender i feel... and my sense is that spain will beat germany... spaniards tend to play tough teams really well... and struggle against the relatively weak teams...
Spain all the way!... or shud I say Barcelona all the way!

Yeah, And even he refused to share the stage with him in that conference. This was a sweet revenge from Mueller.
