Worldwide a survey was conducted by the UN. The only question asked was: "Would you please give your honest opinion about solutions to the food shortage in the rest of the world?" The survey was a huge failure, In Africa they didn't know what 'food' meant, In India they didn't know what 'honest' meant, In Europe they didn't know what 'shortage' meant, In China they didn't know what 'opinion' meant, In the Middle East they didn't know what 'solution' meant, In South America they didn't know what 'please' meant, And in the USA/Canada they didn't know what 'the rest of the world' meant

On serious note, there is real risk of food shortages, price controls, ban on export, rationing etc in some countries. It seems to be already happening in Pakistan. Ours is relatively strong country as far as foreign exchange reserves are concerned. Hence, we may be able to import our way out obviously with some other consquences of having to spend forex for food.
However, I am optimistic that, in fullness of time, this thing will sort out as humans as a race are quite innovative through out history howsoever serious the problem might look today.

We are going to see another agrarian crisis in the near future. Check some of the articles by P.Sainath on the state of India agriculture, problems they are facing, migration issues etc etc. On one hand its appaling on the other hand if the policies are right its a goldmine. ------------- Warm REgards Nitin Jagtap |

I think bio-tech will help us in coming out of a solution...produce more and do something to preserve the food as we produce.. we loose 25-30% of our food production in inefficient supply chain.. that's where lot of opportunities for warehouse owners ------------- ‘The market always does what it’s supposed to — BUT NEVER WHEN’. |

I feel storage is one area where India need to be better. There is a lot of scope for improvement in this area.

Food inflation is here to stay. A forecast by a thinktank has placed the demand-supply imbalance of crude oil at 7 million barrels in 2015. From now to 2030 an additional 64 million barrels will have to be found. Saudi Arabia produces 11 million barrels currently with the oil fields now on a decline. Even Canadian oil shale deposits can yield only 3 million barrels per year.
Crude is expected to hit 150-200 $ in another 3 years. The present phase would see crude hitting the next peak over and above 147$ it registered last. ------------- Life is always a fight....to finish at the start line.
