I am sorry to be starting a new thread on youtube in Portfolio Check up section.
But I did not have permissions to create a new thread in Lounge Section. This is the only section that allowed me to create a new thread.

Basantji,
Kindly move this thread to Lounge Section.

Now...
Many of you would have watched many interesting videos and would like others to have a look as well.

Even I have seen some videos which I thought all of us to have a look at.

More importantly it involves TED.
But this TED is slightly different. This TED is kind of a workshop being organized for more than 10 years and people from various walks of life come and talk about Science, Astronomy, Personal Experiences, Tricks. It is a great place to get an assortment of information.

Some of the ones that I liked are below. I have not seen all of them but among the many, these are some i liked...

I have always been a big fan of Mridangam. Accompanied with ghatam they make an excellent combination.

Some of my favourite ones on youtube are:

For all those fans of heroes...

there are many sites where Heroes 3 vireos are present. One of them which i watch is at:

http://heroes-online-videos.blogspot.com/

On the right hand side you will see all the links for each of the 13 episodes of Heroes.

How sad that we get to see the season 3 in India only after it gets over in the other parts of the world !!!

Chris Marthension (a scientist and Financial Expert) has uploaded a Crash course on the current situation

Some of the Initial videos are at:
http://www.chrismartenson.com/crashcourse/chapter-3-exponential-growth - http://www.chrismartenson.com/crashcourse/chapter-3-exponential-growth
http://www.chrismartenson.com/crashcourse/chapter-4-compounding-problem - http://www.chrismartenson.com/crashcourse/chapter-4-compounding-problem

Sometimes I wonder why all these people surface only during such bad days.
Then I feel that probbaly we start looking at such things only during bad days and these guys were there since long.
After looking at some of the videos, I feel the commodities nerd Jim Rogers's arguement makes some sense atleast.

You can watch all of the 20 chapters at:

BTW can anyone tell me what are indian currencies backed by ? debt  or Gold/Silver ?
As I see in the videos, US currencies are backed by Debt and Gold has long gone as the colateral to print money.
We benchmark our currencies to US dollar. So, considering the rate at which the dollar will decline, in future, we will be forced to go back to the previous scheme of benchmarking against gold (or some other instrument which has value, which does not  loose value over time and which appreciates like gold which will appreciate because of limited supply)

Whenever we discuss growth rate of a company we always expect and try to buy companies which have a growth rate of say 30 % (assuming that ROE matches this growth rate).

But a simple arithmetic proves that in the long run it is IMPOSSIBLE to maintain the growth rate.
It means that every year you have to earn the same as last year + earn the extra 30% to sustain the 30% number that we quote. Then we have repeat it for few more years.

No wonder that no company can sustain such growth rates and very few companies have been successfull in sustaining such growth rates (hdfc bank for example...)

An excellent talk by physics professor Albert Bartlett is uploaded on you tube where he takes a very simple growth rate of 5% and tries to argue that it is so difficult even to maintain 5% growth rate.

The example explained in the class room discussion is generic and not related to stocks.

There was a radio show by Chris Martenson's on 18th December.
The 1 hour talk show is present at:

http://www.blogtalkradio.com/bill-sharon/2008/12/18/what-needs-to-go-right-with-bill-sharon - http://www.blogtalkradio.com/bill-sharon/2008/12/18/what-needs-to-go-right-with-bill-sharon

The talk show has a very small introduction at his current life style, his views about the doomed dollar and floating currencies of other countries.
He also talks of how the consumption led US economy is on the path of destruction and to save it, some very drastic steps need to be taken.
Thanks to the debt oriented policy introduced by Richard Nixon around 1971, US has reached the stage that it is in.

A video that I watched has totally bowled me today.

Its a video by prof Vilayanur Ramachandran who happens to be a Neurologist  and is the director of the Center for Brain and Cognition at the University of California, San Diego, and an adjunct professor at the Salk Institute

http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/vilayanur_ramachandran_on_your_mind.html - http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/vilayanur_ramachandran_on_your_mind.html

The talk discusses 3 case studies. Amazing cases...

==> check out your kiki-buba factor in the video (Are you kiki-buba or buba-kiki)

Sometime i wonder if I have the "phantom biology limb" tucked somewhere in my brain which yearns me to switch over to the miracle world of biology. damn the day when logic (left brain) took control over the desire (right brain) in me and i opted for engineering...

Note:
Vilayanur Ramachandran  has over 180 reserach paper to his credit and has written many books. Some of his books are as below (am planning to buy one...). He has been awarded Padma Bhushan by us.

1. Phantoms in the brain
2. A brief tour of human Consciouness
3. The man with the phantom twin: Adventures in the Neuroscience of human brain.
