No, I am very much in India just trying to get up at 4.45 every day, I leave home by 5.45 and do- not come back before 7.15 either walking, jogging or exercising.

There is a park in Salt Lake called the Central park and is really beautiful withall the greenery and the lake but even while I am there I try to analyse the businesses of companies that I am interested in.

Enjoying this brief stint really but I have been a very early riser all throughout just that the habit got really bad over the past 18 months or so.

Learnt how to do the Surya Namaskar and that is the perfect way to make every part of the body ache. Maybe if Om or somebody can put pictures of Surya Namaskar it should be helpful for all obese TEDdies like me!

And before someone tries to checkmate me let me concede that I have no plans of running any marathon. Just that we need to stay focussed and that is what I do.

In case someone likes pensive/meditational music, try listening to Vishnu Sahastranaam in its entirety in the morning.

Central park is the same even now just that the lovers take hold of the placee by 10.00am! During the afternoon if you threw a pebble in a-bush all you would get is 2 popping heads!!!

Do you know where one can download a MP3 version of the same?

If Basant Sir has been student of St. Xavier's, going to Victoria/Hastings at 5.30 will never be a problem for him. It will also get him feel nostalgic about moving so early on the streets of Kolkata. Actually it has been more then four and a half years - April 2003! The big bets at thattime were Bharti, BFL software and Pantaloon Retail.

As I indicated before at that time there was no conviction and a lot of opportunity today there is a lot of conviction and very little opportunity..

People talk about making health from a morning walk but yaha toh paisa ban gaya -- majak majak mei!

for those who dont know MUSCLE is the biggest fat burner in the human body so it does make sense to add a musle building and strenghtening programme to your morning walks this could be done 3 timesa week maybe in the evenings obiviously one will need to join a gym where there are certified trainers.vigorous exercise will result in 25%-30% weight loss but when you combine execise regime with a proper diet the results are remarkable.basically the indian diet is 75% carbs, 20% fats and just 5-10% protein  adn this ratio is the cause for most of our problems.i could go on and on but those interested would be advised to consult a dietician or a physicaltrainer reg the same.in short cut the carbs and fats and increase protein  ,greens and fruits and see the results. ashot of black coffee 30 min before any form of exercse does improve efficiency of exercise and one will burn more.more shall follow, pl consult doctor, trainer, dietician or any of the above before starting any exercise programme

One should strive for Fitness as well as good health....

There is a difference between being fit and being healthy....

you stay fit if you eat the right number of calories and burn right number of em everyday....

but it is not always true that a person who is fit will be healthy....

health and fitness should go hand in hand else in longer term its difficult to sustain either one of em....

Health -- mental + physical + spiritual + emotional....

mental health comes from reading positive things.and if you keep negative thoughts away from your mind...imagine reading a morning newspaper..which reports scams..murders ..rapes etc....wat happens to your mind??? read a good motivating story instead and see how it works.....

Spiritual health....whether you beleive in god or not you need someone to rely on in your bad times....if you have a strong and righteous beliefs you will have a strong spirit and it will grow stronger with time and with each difficult situation that you face.....

Emotional health....your friends, family and other relations contibute a lot towards your emotional well being....but one can always strive to be emotionally intelligent no matter how old he/she is and no matter in which condition one is living.....it requires to know your basic emotions...control them...direct them to positive directions....knowing emotions of other people and then empathising or sympathising with them......

emotions ---> e+motion ----> energy in motion....emotions are 14 times stronger than logic......

physical---this comes when you eat right...rest properly and exercise.....

eating right --- earth is 70% water...our bodies 70% water..do you think we daily take 70% of water??? i am not askin you to gulp down 3-4 l of water but we should have fruits and fresh vegetables as they have 70% water too in them.....

never mix proteins with fats in ur diet...never eat fruits after eating a meal....

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i use both cardio and weights to train.....and now am worrking on my diet....

its really complex thing...really very complex...eating right portions of proteins..carbs...fats...fibres...vitamins/minerals..still maintaing right calorie intake.....

health comes from what and how much you digest and not what and how much you eat.....

A healthier YOU

Insulin in gel form that can be rubbed into the skin, a way of vacuuming acne away, sex to boost brain power... Several medical and scientific advances in 2007 promise a healthier, happier new year.

Goodbye pills and needles
Diabetics could soon get their daily dose of insulin by rubbing a gel on their skin. In August 2007, Phosphagenics Ltd, an Australian biotech company, announced that a method they had developed of delivering insulin through the skin, in gel form, worked well in the phase 1 human clinical trials. Applied on the skin like a cream, the insulin penetrated into the bloodstream and worked effectively, with no adverse effects. If the phase 2 and phase 3 trials also work well, this could revolutionize the treatment of this disease. But even non-diabetics could benefit from this technology. In December 2007, the company announced that the same method of delivering a potent painkiller through the skin showed positive results in the first phase of human clinical trials.

Vacuum away acne
From pimply teenagers to glamorous actors, acne has been the bane of millions. Finally there seems to be a quick painless way to get rid of those spots, through a treatment that was once used for hair removal. The PPX Pore Cleansing Treatment involves gently vacuuming pores while shining a laser light. It is reported to work well in cases where other forms of medication or laser did not work. This treatment was approved by the USFDA for acne in 2006, but has really taken off in 2007.

Fish out those lethal lurking lipids
A seemingly perfectly healthy person with a 'normal' lipid profile has a heart attack out of the blue. This is not uncommon, especially among Indians. It could be due to a subfraction of lipids that often clog the arteries, but do not show up in regular lipid profiles. Now the technology to detect those hitherto hidden killers has been launched in India. It is recommended for those who have a family history of heart disease, even if the person appears perfectly healthy.

Sleep away the blues
Crazy mood swings and yo-yoing energy levels characterize manic depression, clinically known as 'bipolar disorder', a lifelong condition. Treatment, with various levels of success, used to be medication and psychotherapy and even electroconvulsive therapy (electric shocks) in extreme cases. In December 2007, a study presented at the annual meeting of the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology has shown that regular routines and stable sleep patterns significantly improve the condition. A study of 175 patients with the disorder showed that those who participated in such 'interpersonal and social rhythm' therapy were far less likely to be manic or depressed for a longer time than those treated only clinically. It's the first time that practical lifestyle changes have been shown to ease such life-altering symptoms.

Capturing the heart in a beat
Non-invasive and preventive, an ultra-fast method of detecting possible cardiovascular problems has become very popular in Indian hospitals. The 64-slice CT-scan can capture a beating heart in a second and provide, with appropriate software, a 3-D image of what is happening to the heart and arteries.

Jabs of life
To protect your child from pneumonia and bacterial meningitis, two Indian institutions, the Serum Institute of India Ltd and Bharat Biotech India Ltd, have developed low-cost versions of the HiB (Haemophilus influenzae type b) vaccine. Another five-in-one vaccine, which covers five common childhood diseases in a single shot, reducing the need for repeat painful injections for the child, has also been introduced in India for the first time by Sanofi Pasteur SA. It consists of five vaccines-tetanus, diphtheria, HiB, inactivated polio vaccine and acellular pertussis vaccine.

Skin, the source of new life
Stem cells have been seen as the future of medicine-as they have the potential to be used to develop 'made to measure' organs such as kidneys or livers or hearts to replace faltering ones. The problem was that the most versatile stem cells were the ones obtained from embryos, which leads to all kinds of ethical problems. Now scientists have found a way to reprogramme ordinary skin cells into stem cells which may be just as versatile as the embryonic ones. This means a plentiful source of stem cells that could hasten the medical revolution.

A little bit younger, a little bit fresher
So you want to look younger-enough so that people notice you look fresh, but can't tell why. A new non-surgical facelift procedure called 'Silhouette Thread Lift' has just been introduced in India, and is reported to give 'better lift' than earlier procedures. As the name implies, it involves introducing a thread with cones, which literally pulls the skin up so lines and wrinkles disappear. It's quick (only a day's procedure), reliable and leaves no big scars. And the side effects and irritation are minimal.

Beat that allergy
Whether its peanuts or prawns or just your boss, millions of people go through life with without being able to do much about allergies except treat the symptoms. Now a new revolutionary drug called anti-IgE is available, to be taken as an injection twice a month. For the first time, it actually stops an allergic reaction before it begins.

Sex and the brain
Here's something your mother most certainly didn't tell you-sex apparently boosts brainpower. The claim is made in a book written in 2007 by a cognitive psychologist called Terry Horne and a biochemist, Simon Wooton. The book was based on leading scientific research from around the world. Sex, chocolate, fish and cold meats all help keep the brain active, according to the book. It is lifestyle choices, the authors argue, that create the chemical conditions that keep the brain agile.

A 2003 study published in the leading scientific journal Science said one of the hormones associated with sex did indeed help brain cells grow. So if you want to stay smart, you can now legitimately drop the sudoku for, more interesting activities.

eat 6 small meals a day and increase your protein intake...this helps in burning the fat faster....

protein intake = (0.8*body weight in Kgs)gms to (2*body weight in kgs)gms depending upon your physical activities....e.g if u weigh 70 kgs and do rigrous workout daily you need 2*70 = 140 gms of protein everyday

yes sir i do take whey ..but only whey isolate...supplements are not bad...but steroids are harmful....actually my cousin has done a course on fitness and body building...if you want any information regarding supplements let me know...

best combo is:
1. Creatine
2. nitric oxide

these 2 for strength and stamina

1. whey isolate
2. caesin protein
3. amino branched chain juice

for gaining mass....

then there are fat burners tooo if u want 6 pack abs like SRK or Hrithik....

All these supplements are present in our bodies...creatine is there...NO is there...and all these proteins are there....point is without supplements you cant grow your body....single egg white has 2.5 grams of protein....how much eggs do i eat if i am 70 kgs and need 140 gm protein everyday???

add chicken to it..sprouts etc even then you wont reach 140 gm protein...also you dont want to die eating all the time....

also digestibility of proteins play an imp role....

then you dont want your body to enter catabolic phase...and caesin protein and amino help you to keep it in anabolic phase...etc etc....

weight training is one of the best means to reduce fat and get into shape....it has to be done in a proper way...if u want bulk...lift heavy weight...3 sets for each exercise..8-10 reps....1 gm protein for every pound of your body weight....good rest...4 days a week....

during cutting phase or if you want cardio...go for 4-5 sets...less weight...15-20 reps....

Hi Nitin, I wud suggest not to be very strict. We are humans. I am learning to take care of myself by not being strict.

Discipline, over a period of time becomes a habit without we realising it.

Just like how humor has become part of you and Kulman.

We should all be like a rubber band, not a match-stick.

Be disciplined in your life definitely, but dont attach yourself to this body else that discipline will become very burdensome after sometime. But if you think you are taking care of someone else's body and you have to follow a set of rules for maintaining that discpline in that body, it shall always be enjoyable.

Same is the case with investing. Think of your portfolio as someone else's money you are managing and stick to whatever discipline you have set out in managing that.

Anyhow, my 2 cents...take it with a pinch of salt as I am an amateur too in this regard, just said what came to my mind spontaneously!! Cheers!

Say sorry at the right moment to reduce the anger of others.

You cannot change others as easily as you can change yourself.

Do not just catch your children doing wrong things; it will make you angry. Catch them doing right things.

A matchstick has a head,

But it does not have a brain.

but most of us are like match sticks.....humans and match sticks both have a head....and these days our patience levels are at all time lows(Technically and fundamentally) ..... so like match sticks we also start burning the moment we are rubbed.....

how often do we see these days people becoming restless when they have to wait for something...be it standing in a queue to pay the bills...or red lights...

anger wont help us in any way....

getting angry at someone is like trying to hurt someone while holding burning coals in ur own hands....only your hands ll get burnt...

Antioxidants: It is no exaggeration to say that we are increasingly inundated with free radicals. Free radicals are the most pernicious entities produced in the body in the wake of normal metabolism. Even though the body is equipped to handle a certain load of free radicals, it is when more free radicals are produced than the body can handle that nutritional antioxidants become extremely important. What is more, the aging process itself is driven by excess free radicals. Therefore, to hold these injurious molecules in check, it is extremely important not only to enjoy good health, but also to hold the aging process at bay.

Vitamins: Vitamin deficiency is almost always associated with many health related problems. For example, a decrease in the B vitamins has been linked to stress and the lack of a sense of general wellbeing. With our hectic lifestyles, we are not getting the sufficient amounts of vitamins from the diet. vitamins C and E are also potent antioxidants and work in concert with each other to neutralize free radicals that can pose a hazard to normal health.
Minerals: As important as antioxidents are, the body also needs trace minerals for normal physiological function. The case of selenium illustrates the need for dietary supplementation with trace minerals. Most populations worldwide receive a sufficient supply of selenium from their diets.Selenium is an important trace mineral that functions as an antioxidant.minerals such as calcium and magnesium are required for absorption of amino acids and other nutrients in the body to maintain optimal metabolic function.

Amino Acids: To ensure that the metabolism remains active, amino acids, such as glutamic acid and PABA, (para-amino benzoic acid), and precursors of amino acids, such as betaine hydrochloride. Glutamic acid has been shown to be a valuable dietary supplement in boosting the immune system. Furthermore, if ingested on an empty stomach and combined with a reasonable exercise routine, it induces the secretion of growth hormone that, over time, may reduce body fat and increase lean body mass.

Betaine hydrochloride, on the other hand, serves as a precursor to derivatives of the amino acid methionine, which are involved in the synthesis of vitamins B in the body, including the brain. Betaine hydrochloride allows the body to synthesize all the beneficial compounds that it needs in the right amount at the right time.

Either include lots of seasonal fruits and vegetables in your diet....eat lots of nuts...otherwise start taking multivitamins....Its surely helps...keeps you charged up.... diseases are kept at bay.....

While wealth is being created (?) in Markets, let's not forget the these things.....

Common Health Mistakes

All of us make little health mistakes that cause damage to our bodies in the
long run - simply because we are unaware we are doing something wrong. Here
are some of the most common mistakes made by many of us.

Crossing our legs

Do you cross your legs at your knees when sitting? Although we may
>believe that this is the lady-like elegant way to sit, sitting this way
>cuts down circulation to your legs. If you don"t want varicose veins to
> >mar the beauty of your legs and compromise your health, uncross your
> >legs
>every time you realise you have one knee on top of the other. The best way
>to sit is to simply place both legs together on the floor, balancing your
>weight equally. If you feel like changing position, instead of crossing
>your legs, simply move both legs together to one side. As an alternative,
>you could also consider crossing your legs cloosely at the ankles. This is
>a classically elegant way to sit, and is far better for your legs and your
>health than sitting with your legs crossed at your knees.

Not changing our toothbrush

How often do you change your toothbrush? Most of us wait until most of the
bristles have either fallen off, or are in such bad shape that we"d be
embarrassed to pull out our brush in public. However, since not many of us
need to pull out our brush in public, we carry on with our frayed one until
we lose it. Replace your toothbrush often. Damaged bristles can harm the
enamel, and don"t massage your gums well. If you find brushing your teeth
a pain like I do, but know you must do it, you might as well be doing it
right. Imagine going through the annoyance of brushing your teeth twice a
day only to find out that you"re damaging your enamel every time you clean
your teeth. Also, use a brush with soft bristles unless your dentist has
advised otherwise.

Eating out often

There are oils that are high in cholesterol, and oils that cause little
harm and are better for your heart. However, no matter how light the oil
is, it is never a good idea to eat too much of it. Avoid fried
foods.Remember that in all probability your favourite Indian food
restaurant throws a huge, HUGE chunk of butter in a tiny bowl of dal. Rita,
who worked in the kitchen of a 5 star hotel, was shocked when she saw the
cook chop a 500gm butter slab in half, and throw half into a Paneer Makhani
dish. No wonder the customers left licking their fingers. And no wonder
they felt so stuffed and heavy afterwards. Limit outdoor eating unless you
know that you"re getting served light and healthy food.

Skipping breakfast

Never, ever skip breakfast. Remember, when you wake up in the morning it"s
been around 10-12 hours since your last meal. Your body needs food now, more
than at any other time. Eat a heavy breakfast. You will then be busy
through the day, and the calories will get expended quickly. If you are
trying to diet, eat a light dinner. Here are some more common health
mistakes we make. Being informed and making a few changes can help make us
feel a whole lot better.

High heels

High heels sure look great, but they're murder for your back. This
however doesn't mean you should steer clear of stilettos. Wear them, but
not when you know you will be walking around a lot. Wear them when going
out for lunch or dinner - when the only walking you will be doing is to
your car, to the table, and back. Avoid high heels when you are going
somewhere on foot. If you are constantly tempted to wear your heels, take a
good look at your flats. Is there something about them you dislike? Invest
in a new pair of beautiful flats or shoes with a low heel. Buy something
you love, that you will enjoy wearing. If possible, get a matching bag. You
will then enjoy your flats as much as you do your heels.

Sleeping on a soft bed

You don't have to sleep on the floor be kind to your back, but do make sure
you have a firm mattress. Although a mattress on springs is soft and lovely
to sink into, it's bad for your back. If you already have an old bed with
springs, you don't need to invest in a new one - simply get a thick wooden
plank put over the springs, and place the mattress on the plank. Similarly,
if your mattress is old and lumpy, throw it out and get a new one. Your
neck and your back will thank you. The same rule applies to sofas. If you
will be spending hours on a sofa, get a firm yet comfortable one. Sofas you
completely sink into are not the best idea.

Pillows

No matter how comfortable sleeping with ten cushions is, have pity on your
neck and resist. Sleep with one pillow, and make sure it is not too thick.
If your pillow gets lumpy, discard it and go for a new one. Get a thin
pillow if you sleep on your stomach, and something a little thicker if you
sleep on your back, to give your neck adequate support.

Not exercising

So all of us know we should exercise more, but many of us don't. This is a
health mistake we consciously make! And why is that? Simply because we
refuse to admit the damage we are causing to our bodies by not working out.
A number of people only start working out once they've experienced a
warning signal. Don't wait for a heart attack to strike before you decide to
opt for a lifestyle change. Make the change now. You don't need to train for
the marathon to be in top shape. Half an hour of brisk walking three to four
times a week will make a world of difference to your health. You could then
increase this to forty minutes, four times a week - and you're all set. If
you haven't exercised for a week, you're making a mistake.

I bought one of these Nintendo Wii videogame consoleslast year, and it is fun as hell! It has a novel motion-based controller where you have to wave it around, etc to interact with the games. Then a few months ago, I bought a new game and controller for it, called the Wii Fit. It is a platform you stand on, not unlike a bathroom scale, and it senses your weight, balance, etc. It comes with various games, including a fun Wii Jogging game that gives a good cardio workout.

This is the future of videogaming. Not becoming a couch potato, but having a new interactive workout that disguises exercise as videogame fun!

... DRINK WATER ON EMPTY STOMACH
It is popular in Japan today to drink water immediately after waking up every morning. Furthermore, scientific tests have proven a its value. We publish below a description of use of water for our readers. For old and serious diseases as well as modern illnesses the water treatment had been found successful by a Japanese med ical society as a 100% cure for the following diseases:

Headache, body ache, heart system, arthritis, fast heart beat, epilepsy, excess fatness, bronchitis asthma, TB, meningitis, kidney and urine diseases, vomiting, ga str itis, diarrhea, piles, diabetes, constipation, all eye diseases, womb, cancer and men str ual diso rd ers, ear nose and throat diseases.

METHOD OF TREATMENT

1. As you wake up in the morning
before brushing teeth, drink 4 x 160ml glasses of water .....interesting

2. Brush and clean the mouth but do not eat or drink anything for 45 minutes

3. After 45 minutes you may eat and drink as normal.

4. After 15 minutes of breakfast, lunch and dinner do not eat or drink anything for 2 hours

5. Those who are old or sick and are unable to drink 4 glasses of water at the beginning may commence by taking little water and gradually increase it to 4 glasses per day.

6. The above method of treatment will cure diseases of the sick and others can enjoy a healthy life.

The following list gives the number of days of treatment required to cure/control/reduce main diseases:

1. High Blood Pressure - 30 days

2. Ga str ic - 10 days

3. Diabetes - 30 days

4. Constipation - 10 days

5. Cancer - 180 days

6. TB - 90 days

7. Arthritis patients should follow the above treatment only for 3 days in the 1st week, and from 2nd week onwa rd s - daily.

This treatment method has no side effects, however at the commencement of treatment you may have to urinate a few times.

It is better if we continue this and make this procedure as a routine work in our life.

Drink Water and Stay healthy and Active.

This makes sense .. The Chinese and Japanese drink hot tea with their meals ...not cold water. Maybe it is time we adopt their drinking habit while eating!!! Nothing to lose, everything to gain...

For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you.

It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed . It will slow down the digestion.
Once this 'sludge' reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

A serious note about heart attacks
: Women should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting.
Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line.

You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack..

Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms.

60% of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up.

Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep. Let's be careful and be aware. The more we know, the better chance we could survive...

EXERCISE FOR PEOPLE OVER 40

Begin by standing on a comfortable surface, where you have plenty of room at each side. With a 5-lb potato sack in each hand, extend your arms straight out from your sides, and hold them there as long as you can. Try to reach a full minute, and then relax. Each day you'll find that you can hold this position for just a bit longer.

After a couple of weeks, move up to 10-lb potato sacks.

Then try 50-lb potato sacks, and eventually try to get to where you can lift a 100-lb potato sack in each hand, and hold your arms straight for more than a full minute. (I'm at this level.)

Once you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each sack.Big%20smile
