Stockmarket is a weird place. For every person who buys a stock there is a person who sells it and both think they are very smart.

I feel the whole sector as a whole probably is in for a re-rating. If they can manage good results for a couple of quarters, things can improve on valuation front.

Hello Hit,
I want to better understand this asbestos business.
Where is it exactly used?
Any idea where I can understand this sector better?
Also can we say that this business is a consumer driven business?
Also suppose if we want to do a basket buying in this sector ... top 4 companies. Which one do you think we should bet on? (in order of priority)
Thanks,
Dhruvesh
P.S: Hit its really amazing the way you digout these stocks. Is it again from the Edel screener

Hi dhruvesh,
The main consumers for asbestos sheets would be rural lower and middle income group people who cannot afford pukka houses. With benefits of buoyant economy percolating to the rural sector, it is likely to be the new sector that drives demand and hence the focus on this sector.
In order of preference, I would go for sahyadri, visaka and hyderabad inds. I own the first two. Sahyadri because for a small company it is available at great valuation of 5-6 PE and ROE of 34 to boast of. I am playing for the growth to continue and a rerating of the sector to around 7-8 PE.

Also, not to forget, falling cement prices can be a big boost to these companies, although thats an industry-wide phenomenon and not connected with any particular company.
I have just one company of them in my portfolio. And the reason I would just stick to Hyderabad Industries, is that they are into other products as well besides corrugated fibre cement sheets.

I understand that Asbestose is hazardous for health. Use of Asbestose is banned in Western countries. Many companies faced serious problems of survival in Western countries due to Asbestose related law suits.
Even though this might not be the case currently in India, how about possibility of ban on Asbestose? & then associated issues with these companies?

Absolutely right sir. Use of the same is banned in all MNC and many of private project undertakings.
