I am  great admorer of Mr. basant's logic, but stand to differ from him on some counts. We are talking of great investors but actually it is their timing of entry and exit that has made them great.so, if warren Buffett os buying Conocophillips, then why the hell we are so worried in buying ONGC.We fear in getting into value stocks, but then, we forget that the teacher of warren Buffett has been none other than the Father Of value Investment. Why dont we pick up the seeds and grow the crop.....why we are rumming after the fruits????Why dont we see the colours thats is being increasingly used in our day to day life...why are we merely looking at the coloured objects????The skill lies in not picking the right stocks.... it lies in picking right stocks at the Right Time. Mr, basant, in all your arguments, I have seen a shortcoming...you dont pick any downstream companies. We are talking of big things, but then are we looking at companies which addresses our most important problems. Beleive you me, if India has to grow, we need to take care of sanitation, healthcare, Food And Nutrition and other problems. We are talking of so many companies, but have we bothered to look at companies which are into all this. Tell me, how many comoanues are there in Ductile Iron Pipe maufacturing in India? Only 2 majors, Electrosteel and Jindal SAW. How many are into Health Care... just a few hospitals???How many companies provide solutions to increase our yould per acre of crops... majorly, very few, Monsanto, and Syngenta, and a few smaller companies.Let us go deeper and search value. Otherwise, we will merely end up buying right stocks without adding meaning to our investment philosophy.

Regards,

Vivek

Its like this mr. Student, when we decide to buy a stock, I beleive we should try to discover an ideal price and the current price and then trade. Its the difference between the ideal price and the current price that shows us the value. What I have problem with, is that we pick up stocks on random hypothesis and postulates, without bothering to discover a correct price and finding out the value. All O want to say, is that as investors we need not be thinkers alone. We need to be mathematicians and accountants as well.

As far as companies and sectors go, let me give you an example. We are talking of so many steel companies coming ovser here in India. But then all steel plants, use metallurgical chemicals. I know of just 1 company in this field, o.e. Foseco India.

We talk of so many things on paper consumption. All of the paper manyfacturing plants require Felts. How many companies are into that field?I know of just 1 comopany, Porritts and Spencer Asia.wores and Wabriks is also there, but I am not sure.

There can be many examlples... just a few I mentioned here.
