Few points here why I am intrested in Taneja:

1. No. of personal Jets are going to soar.
2. If they are agent for Cessna, people will come to them for maintenance. They are planning to launch service center for Cessna soon and cessna is selling good. Company also manufatures six seater aircraft. Not jet engine though.
3. Company has tie-up for MRO(maintenance &repair) and this is going to be big business, very competitive though. MRO has scope for outsoursing from other countries.
4. They are parter (not contractor) with HAL in project HANSA and SARAS. this gives them advantage in knowing the field. They have some expertese in composite material which is lighter and stronger than alumnium.
5. Company is upgrading their airfield facility at hosur and plan to use for commercial purpose. It is closer to electronic city, Bangalore. I couldn't get much info abt size but location looks to be good from what they say. We know about traffic in bangalore and this can be really handy.
6. Govt of India has started counter trade obligations with foreign aircraft manufacuteres in order to develop local companies. In this policy they need to import 30%(of their exports to India) of parts/services from India. This should help existing palyers in this space and there are not many companies.
7. There can not be any powerful country who has to depend on others for their defence. India will have to develop aircraft carriers(ships) and fighter and civilian aircraft. China is talking to capture business from boeing and airbus. We can not ignore this field so govt will have to encourage private players. This business has to evolve and if any existing player is smart they can be big.

Stock is not cheap and there is no clear short term visibility. Company atleast is not losing money and makes decent profit. Dilution will keep on coming if they need to grow.  I have small position so I can watch this company. My view is more on defece side. We have urgency to develop public/private partnership.

It has been reported in ET that Taneja is selling 250 acres in the Silicon City to GMR  Infrastructure at about Rs 350 cr and it will not plough the money  back to the company and give directly to the shareholders.
Any views?

Few points I am providig wiseowl

The  Aerospace manufacturing  industry in India  is  mainly  serviced by  HAL ,NAL &  DRDO and it is few thousand crores industry and growing in & outbounds and MRO is self serviced buy the airlines .(NACIL etc)

Lets have a look  India’s major suppliers of Aero Systems & Components.

System/Components

Companies

Aerospace Manufacturing

Titan ,Tata Advanced Material ,Maini Group ,Kisloskar

New Entrant

Triveni ,Kumaran Industries.

Aero Engine

QueST ,Infotech Enterprise,TCS

Aero Structure

Infosys,HCL ,QueST,CADDES,CMS Computer

Accessories

Accord Software,HCL ,Genser Aerospace,Taneja ,Avasarala ,Midhani

Ground Support Equipment

L&T ( Spectrum Infotech) ,NeST Avionics,Tata Power

Avionics

HCL ,Silver Software ,Wipro.

Let have a look at the JV or PE investments  2007 onwards of Indian corporates with the world renowned aerospace industry service providers :-

GE

Kerns Aeroproducts

Magellan Aerospace

QueST

Northrop Gruman

Dynamatic Technologies ,BEL

CeBe Network Holding

CADES Digitech

EADS

Jupiter Aviation

Boeing

L&T ,Infosys ,Infotech Enterprises ,HCL ,HAL ,IISc

The deal making approaches by the corporates  give a clear picture that this industry is gathering steam for a straight move  for the days to come.

Taneja has three verticals

Aero Manufacturing & Cessna Sales and Services

MRO

Aviation Software Technology service provider by subsidiary TAAL Technologies.

In the aero structure TAAL has provided  the rocket structure  for GSLV & PSLV in Chandrayaan-1 mission. It has also a JV with BEML to explore the aeronautical “Offset” opportunities in the defence and civilian sectors and development opportunities in the domestic market .

In the vertical MRO ( already SEZ approved) TAAL has signed a agreement  with AirWorks .Airwork ( PunjLlyod has made an equity investment ) is established in 1951 and largest independent MRO in India with skilled workforce of over 500 employees across 10 airports in the country.Has enormous experience in running largest MRO operation and involved in setting up Jet Airways in house MRO team in 1993.

To begin with Taneja would licence two hangers that would fetch 7.5 crores annually a steady cash flow for the company.Taneja would also licence 7 acres of land and upto 5 hangers to Airworks. The remaining land  nearly 150 acre site at Hosur (proximity to “Electronic City”) , for what purpose company uses  it has to be seen. The positive thing which is favour of the company is that no new airfield is likely to be permitted in the vicinity of Electronic City in the future.

Third vertical ,TAAL Technologies a newly floated subsidiary .It is niche Engineering Services and Technology Solutions company helping global corporations in Aerospace & Defence ,Power Generation ,Oil and Gas and Industrial segments .TAAL Technologies provides solutions in Product Design and Innovation ,Product Enhancements ,Value Engineering ,Cost Reduction ,Product Optimization ,CAD/CAE/CAM Solution ,Process Planning ,Concurrent Engineering ,Virtual Stimulation and Manufacturing Optimisation. In coming days many job will be outsourced to this company as

This is a company where there is enormous possibility and probability that PE re-rating can happen  and investor fancy can take this stock to different orbit.

Now the question Will Taneja can make it?  As the company has major plans for the future and upgrading its manufacturing and  hangars  facilities and also increasing the length of its runways. Now in this sector,  if Taneja  can’t make it , someone else will. Right now, it's the only listed company in India that seems to be getting a grip on this difficult but promising business.
So , in this environment where there are many cheap shares are  available if anyone interested   make a small bouquet of investments and raise your exposure if the company  delivers earnings in the  future. And, most importantly, stay closely tuned in to the facts as they pan out. Make emotionless exits when things don't go your way!

Although the sector itself holds a lot of promise, there could be problems with Taneja Aerospace regarding project execution. Some points from my study :

-- IPO at par in 1994. It reached break-even level pretty soon by selling 3 aeroplanes. The scrip went up to Rs 70.

-- Financial results in subsequent years seem to be highly choppy.  Sales figures are Rs 11.5 crores (1994), 8.5 cr (2004), 11.29 cr (2005), 24.9 cr (2006), 14.4 cr (2008). There has been virtually no increase in sales over the past 15 yrs.

-- The company has not paid any dividend so far.

-- The FY has been changed a number of times : year-end was Sep in 2001, March during 2004-06, June in 2007, and again March in 2008. So, comparing results in different years is difficult.

-- Stock was at Rs 5 levels in Aug 2004. It zoomed to Rs 100 in 2005 (P/E of 53x). It reached a (lifetime ?) high of around Rs 154 in 2008 and was back to 15-20 levels in early 2009.

-- The company is part of the Pune-based Indian Seamless group. Anybody has any information on the promoters ?

The risk-reward ratio in this stock seems to be highly tilted towards risk.

Life time high was atleast than 265 as per my records.

Mkt cap right now is <90 cr. You are getting an airport near b'lore and an SEZ for that price apart from other stuff. Not too much debt so that is not an issue. They palce 2.3m shares with ML at 155 in 2008. So that amt itself was 35cr or so.

This stock has potential of 20-50 bagger if area hit real estate boom in ten years.

This is not typical growth or value story. But it is unique situation.
