If the scramble of city life is taking a toll on you and adventure is the key that unlocks your indiscernible verve, then the untamed waves have an open invitation for you. But before you decide to take on the mantle, spare a moment and think. To scale a 10 ft wave at speed of 36 knots on a three-meter wooden board asks for more than courage. It demands — a lion’s heart. To tread a rapacious wave is no child’s play and those who deftly overcome this watery hurdle are coined ‘windsurfers.’ The sport is immensely popular in all countries which boast of a continued coastline, and it’s slowly but surely creating waves in India. “Windsurfing is not only a players but a spectator sport as well. The sight of a surfer emerging out of a curved wave can thrill anyone,” says Cesar Menazes, president, Board Sailing Association Of India (BSAI). Today, one can windsurf around the exotic beaches of Goa, the challenging waters of Lakshwadeep and at some places in Andhra Pradesh. “In the late 80’s, Andhra was the place to test your skills in windsurfing but over the years the interest has declined. A little effort from the government and am sure that the sport will again pick up as they’re the near perfect locations for windsurfing,” adds Menazes. Some of the beaches, which are famous for wind surfing in Goa are, Anjuna beach and Baga beach. It’s not only the lack of training facilities but unavailability of surfboards, which has curbed the popularity of the sport. A surfboard on the lines of international standards can cost you around a lakh. Even choosing a surfboard is an important aspect of windsurfing. There are ‘soft top’ surfboards, which are considerably less dangerous and inexpensive. Experts believe that if you’re planning to learn windsurfing then ‘longboards’ are the best bet as they are easier to paddle and stand upon. Medal or not, the real fun of windsurfing lays in conquering the waves and if you are game then soar high and kiss the blue sky.

I am very fond of swimming. Infact during my college days and upto 30-, I used to jump into water for swimming at any time & place.

During our college days, we used to plan for trekking/cycling where there is a fall or water to swim. Our holi days during that time used to end by having a swim in the sea (our college was a stone throw from Arabian Sea).
