What can i say? ClapClapClapClapClap

Basically we have to know what we need and want and also understand our own selves which is the challenging task.

Best wishes,

What is the use of earning and then spending at all. Warren has said something like this: it's like saving s** for the old age.

So Smartcat,  my dear friend, do not forget to spend after earning.

Best wishes,

JM

And then there was this here:
Now I just calculated that, since 2001, my networth has increased 337 times (CAGR of 107%) in the past 8 years through business income & stock market investments.

Came across this beautiful thread today only.

The house is divided on the need to be frugal and content Vs. the need to earn and splurge to no limit.

A point I would like to make:

Enduring peace of mind and action can come only from being frugal and content and not from the compulsive and constant need to earn and splurge with increasing volumes and intensity.

This may be a little difficult to understand either at the begining of one's career or for a person who is yet to make more than humble progress in one's perceived need of riches. However, for  someone who has passed through that road, like Chandrakant bhai Sampat and many of his ilks, the lesson is self learnt through self experience rather than taught in a prescribed book.

Another point is: Even mental clutter is difficult to go without the removal of physical clutter.

Janak, by the time this discussion ends, I think you'll be a reformed man again - that is, you will buy three 52 inch LCD TVs with Bose amplifier and home theatre system!!

Desire kills joy
yet the goal of all desires is joy

Whenever happiness has disappeared from your life,
look deep within and you will see it is because of desire

Yet all that we desire
        is happiness

No creature desiring unhappiness is ever born;
never has it happened before and

never will it happen in the future

When your small mind gets tired of running here and there,
        of wandering everywhere,
                it reaches the conclusion,
“My desires have killed my happiness

All desires are

for happiness

That is the goal of desire,

isn’t it?

But how often does your desire

lead you to the goal?

Have you thought

about the nature of desire?

It simply means tomorrow,

and not now

But joy is Never Tomorrow,

it is Always Now

How can you have desires

when you are joyful?

And how can you really be joyful right now

when you have desires?

Desire appears to lead you to happiness,

but in fact it Cannot

That is why desire is maya – illusion

Buddha said that
desire is the cause of all misery

If your desire does not get fulfilled,
       it leads to frustration and
              causes misery

And if your desire does get fulfilled,
       it leaves you empty

Vasishta said that
desire is the cause of pleasure

You get pleasure from an object or a person
       only when you desire them

When you do not desire an object,
you will not get pleasure from it

When you are hot and thirsty,
        a sip of cold water gives you pleasure;
but there is no pleasure if you are not thirsty

Whatever gives you pleasure
       binds you and
              bondage is misery

I tell you,
       when you desire truth,
                 all other desires drop off

You always desire something that is not there but
       truth is always there

Desire for truth removes all other desires,
       then it dissolves and
              what remains is bliss

Dear Smartcat,

Smile    I already have 36 Inch High Definition LCD Panasomic TV and other one is again big flat samsung TV. Actually i tried to edit my post! But cud not. There was a typo. Confused  So the correct one is this:

What is the use of earning and then NOT spending at all.

Warren has said something like this: it's like saving s** for the old age.

So i hope u r now pleased with my stand and the corrected post.

I do not intend to make and save like Warren or even C M Sampat or for that matter anybody. We all have our likes and wants. I spend a lot each and every month. Most of my expenses r for my kids edu and reading material for my own library.

I also take three holidays every year and go to Mahindra Resorts.

Mahnish Pabrai had recently said which was something like this: Nan** aye hai, Nan** jayendge. So what is the use of accumulating beyond what we need? Why not enjoy? One life!! Why so serious?

My cousin is in the biz of selling the most expensive music systems in India. I have seen and heard those speakers but have not really felt any need to buy those.

I do not have Bose, but have Creative speakers system. Good enough for me.

What i meant in past was this: Do not ruin your health in trying to collect wealth and then spend all that wealth in trying to recollect the lost health.

I have seen few people with many crores chasing money with no end in sight. In process their lives become shallow. The relationship that they have is based on the monetary transactions.

I am of the opinion that there is much to life than just making money and accumulating. I have made money just to buy me a freedom.

I have been poor in past and know the value of money. At the same time, i wud value my health, reputation, happiness, peace of mind and relationship much more than money.

I hope i am clear in posting my views here.

Best wishes to all,

JM

Ah OK, all clear now! I got a really different picture (fuzzy images of a wise sage meditating on the top of a mountain) from the original post.

Whatever you do, don't stop travelling! That is one expense that can be arguably called an 'investment'.
