This is the four year history. ICICI with such aggressive postures has not been able to beat even the more stable HDFC bank and for Axis Bank it is far ahead of the crowd.

Basant ji,

by the end of 2010, what returns can we expect from these banks?

If money is your hope for independence, you will never have it. The
only real security that a man can have in this world is a reserve of
knowledge, experience and ability.

I find it difficult to set targets but personally I am aiming at a 35% CAGR.

These prices are not dividend-adjusted.

Over past 5 years, ICICI Bank has given Rs. 42 in dividends, while HDFC Bank has given Rs. 23.5 in dividends over past 5 years - So there is a difference of Rs. 18.5 in dividends over the past 5 years ...

Since most of these differences are in earlier years of past 5 years - If you reduce the cost price of ICICI Bank by Rs. 18.5 or even lesser - It is overtaking HDFC Bank ....
i.e.  1143/(242-18.5) = 5.11 times for ICICI Bank

If you time-discount 18.5 to Rs. 16:
Still ICICI Bank would marginally win over HDFC Bank !!

The Gap between a 5.05 bagger to a 4.72 bagger is a small gap and this gap vanishes if you rightfully adjust it for the dividends..

As for Axis bank, it has risen to more than double in past 9 months - and not so much over earlier 3 yrs. of past 4 yrs !!

One observation on BOI , it's price on 2004 June 30 - 47Rs
Now it is more than 300Rs.
It is a 6 bagger and beaten ICICI, HDFC bank and SBI.

Be fearful when others are greedy and be greedy when others are fearful.
