There is a relatively unknown firm called Sanra Software. They were into losses until recently. They've rejigged their business (someone acquired it) and acquired some animation studio recently and want to give more thrust in the same. There was an open offer for the same recently (in Nov 07) by the new owner. Will post more if I get more info.

My sense is ...(talking like an analyst) that this industry will suffer for some time. Why? ....With Markets making lower lows in bearish phase, we have animated behaviour/discussions for free.

Hahaha....nice one kulman ji.

On a serious note I suppose recession should not hamper the animation industry. Afterall, will people stop watching animation movies during recession ? I dont think so.

BTW Compact Disc announced yet another project. This time to co-produce a movie with White Light Entertainment of Jurassic Park & schiendler's list fame. White Light Entertainment is the world’s largest and the most profitable studio. The production house has to its credit 19 Academy Awards and a total box office collection for the fourteen movies they have produced so far of over $ 4 billion.
Details here

Equity master had a small article on growth prospect of this sector and Prime Focus in particular in Dec 2007.

...
Growth opportunity
Globally, the top 10 all time grossers are movies heavily loaded with visual effects wherein the post production and visual effects budget averaged to approximately 70% of the cost of production (Titanic, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, etc.). A similar trend can be observed emerging in India. Three of the recent big Bollywood hits – ‘Dhoom 2’, ‘Krissh’ and ‘Don’ had visual effects of more than 50 minutes each. The VFX and animation industry in India is said to be growing at a robust rate of 38% and 25% respectively.

Increasing labour costs are forcing international production houses/VFX houses to outsource part of the work to other low cost studios. India has the competitive edge in terms of technical know-how and talent to emerge as a major outsourcing hub for entertainment technology. The cost differential for India in comparison to the UK market is as high as 6-8 times and 3-4 times for the US market. Industry experts believe that Indian entertainment technology services have the ability to grow at a CAGR of around 35% over the next 10 years.

...

with recent fall in prime focus, it may be a good oppotunity to buy...

Though this post may not be relevant here, but I feel that prime focus with its current moves and focus is going to emerge as a global indian entertainment service company. Currently the mcap is @750 cr and they are doing consolidated business of 250 cr+. If they are able to generate more profits out of their VTR acquisition, it would be a multi bagger from here on..
