Hi Basant,

It is not personal. We had three fridges, three Tv and sitting arrangements for more than 21 people in a small family of 4 people. Extra wardrobes, boxes , tv, fridge, many vessels, printers, fax, many chairs were given to near and dear ones who use them on a daily basis compared to very less use by us.

We gave away more than 100 pieces of clothes.

I was once talking about this with Snehal and he advised me that after clearing the office clutter and house clutter, we should clear our mental clutter also.

Well, he is right about it.

Best wishes,

JM

I love my money, not my opinion. So i am ready and willing to change my opinion for the sake of protecting my money.

IMO the biggest challenge is to lead a more examined and purposefull  life, in terms of what we do, what actions we perform, what kind of thoughts come to our mind, what habits we inculcate, what kind of life style we lead etc etc ...once we are able to answer these questions to ourselves in a sincere way .....all other things will fall in place.

Personally, I'm content with not buying a house or property, using a 5 year old Bata chappal, 6 year old Jockey undergarments (no holes in it - I checked), no banians and even using a 10 year old pant.

Is this too much information?

But I splurge on other items, and no amount of money in the bank account is enough. Long Live Capitalism.

Actually, spending money is a good way of giving back to the society. When you buy that expensive car, you feed around 20 families - workers who assemble the car & components, dealership salesman, petrol bunk employees, car insurance salesman, RTO employees, service engineer at the dealership, policeman when you skip that traffic signal etc.

You will do a bigger service to nation when you spend money than hoarding it in stocks or land. So if I make big money, I won't live a simple austere life - that's for sure. Living an ascetic life and not spending hard earned money is a 1960s concept and is flawed.

I guess TIME is the best TEACHER.Let considerable time pass and all us young guns would understand what Janak jee and Snehal jee mean.
The most important quality for an investor is temperament, not intellect.A temperament that neither derives great pleasure from being with the crowd nor against it

I am of the opinion that instead of saying " Being content after making money" which is one day, some day scenario, I am rather "being content while making money"

Like the saying in hindi, ek lakh bhi kum hai, ek karore bhi kum, the point at which you say 'enough' is a difficult one, at least for me, right now.

As long as I am enjoying my day and money comes along I am fine. I think "being content" is not linked to money. If it was so, why on earth does Worlds 1st and 2nd Richest guys give all that hard earned money in charity foundations ?

Nagaraj

Earning crores and giving some money to charity instead of spending  is one more  thing that gets my goat.

When you give money away to charity (instead of spending), it is equivalent to giving alms to beggars or giving a fish to a hungry man. When you spend money, it is actually equivalent to teaching a man how to fish - because you create thousands of jobs when you spend money.

However, I'm all for those people who lead a lavish life AND contribute generously to charity.

Work hard, dont hurt anyone and be proud of making money , do it honestly and enjoy having it.. i dont see why i should empty my house to feel i am a better human being.
Giving back to society does not mean, that one becomes a hermit himself.
Work hard and enjoy the fruit, is what i would say.

best wishes,
samir.

Beautiful lines which describe the mad rush after material things.

Just look at the ambanis. Each of them has so much money that even if they fulfill all their wishes, there will be lots left for the next generation. Still they fight in front of the whole country like greedy dogs. What are they going to get after all this fighting?

My philosophy is to create minimal needs in life so that one does not have any disappointments if one is short of anything. And if anything comes along, it always feels like a bonus and gives more joy.

There are some people who just won't be happy to go for vacations unless they go to five star resorts and such places. There are others who are happy even going for treks and living in tents. It all depends upon one's needs and wishes to be happy.
Stockmarket is a weird place. For every person who buys a stock there is a person who sells it and both think they are very smart.
