IT is like a kirana dukan selling human services (I know kulmanji will take this to a different level, but then I partially meant the same).Every now and then the middle mgmt of IT companies are just bothered about only one word 'headcount' 'headcount' 'headcount'. And that pretty much realates to the business mentioned above. The only thing here is, the customer is a gora, so rate is better ;) Being part of the same industry, I feel bad in saying these things...But that's what these people have made of this industry. What is perceived as Technology companies in the US, its more of a kirana shop here. Probably the $ situation will force people to think on some indigenious good products rather than these cheap 'headcount' dhandas. Probably, products is the way ahead for these companies to survive. And believe me, the local mkt is strong and good enough for software products.

Hi Tushar,
You are absolutely right ! In fact the level of work ethics is very less in case of Indian IT companies. Although they boost of their employee satisfaction, but in actuality you will hardly find a few % of the total employees who are actual happy. In comparison to other sectors, like Automobiles, Banking, Telecom etc, you will find the lowest level of employee loyalty on case of IT sector. That itself means that there is something wrong in the sector. And as you said, Product based companies are much more efficient and command a good amount of respect and loyalty among its employees. That is only because they don't try to cheat their employees. After this Rupee appreciation, now Indian IT cos are also thinking again about their business model. The time of cheap Indian labor advantage has gone. They have to go beyond selling human services like Dalals if they want to survive.

Sorry to interfere....but generally speaking there are two major reasons of dissatisfaction (not only in IT but any sector):
- Most people take up jobs only for money or for CV. They overlook their real passion.
- The devil is in the mind: "Bhala uski kameez meri kameez se safed kaise?". Comparison & competition is good as long as it's not envy.
Disclaimer: I'm in no way related to IT sector. These are general observations.

A little anecdote I heard today. My friend's friend's friend works in Huawei, a Chinese company with a development office in Bangalore. They sent him to China for a couple of months for training.
Here in China, Huawei expects their employees to sleep after their lunch. All the lights are switched off between 1:00 and 3:00 PM so that their employees can have their nap. Mats and pillows are placed in a large room too.
But our man, being a true desi, went to sleep at 1:00 in the afternoon and forgot to wake up. His worried Chinese boss had to find him first and wake him up, at 5:00 PM.
And we all wonder why the Chinese don't trust us Indians...
Infy should introduce this 'lights off' facility to improve employee satisfaction.

You are absolutely right kulman, it is more true for IT people because they think that they can always find another employer who is going to pay them more. People often forget what work they are doing, whether they are really doing something good/great that makes them happy. Good Salaries make you happy on the 1st of every month, good work makes you happy every moment, everyday.
