India outbound tourism is a strong long term consumption story. So lets stop looking on Q on Q basis & take a 5 year view.

I couldn't figure out this PE of 70. You seem to be way off the mark.
Thomas Cook cmp 46
Sep 2010 ended 9 months EPS is at 2.1 --Even standalone eps is at 1.67 per share.(year ending Dec for Thomas cook and they are going to present audited results for full year)
46 divided by 2.1 comes to less than 23 and we dont seem to count whatever little earning which might accrue from last quarter.
And brand strength wise I think both TC and Cox seem to be on same footing.

Stockmarket is a weird place. For every person who buys a stock there is a person who sells it and both think they are very smart.

I am indebted to TED and paying back in small installments
Earlier I just used to trade, i.e. buy something based on Quarterly numbers. Then wonder - this company has posted 90% jump in profits and why is it still going down after I buy it.
Also, I go thru lot of emotions when computing these numbers and just sharing it with fellow TEDs. |
He He....Your predicament reminds me how I went about buying stocks about 2 years back....
Once i bought Financial Technologies since it's PE fell drastically after it announced fat earnings (the earnings was because it sold off something and it was one time)...The day before i thought FT was expensive...

To add to Hitesh's point Thomas Cook has the added attraction of being a buy back candidate

This would have been the PE of TC in Jan 10 which would have come down now.

Cox & King shud benefit from woes of its main rival TC.
But the co performance itself is average to say the least. Its Indian outbound operations have performed well when compared to its overseas subsidiaries performance.
Its recent takeover of UK co Holiday seems to be make or break issue for it.has anybody analysed it recently? MS is still positive on Cox & Kings.
