Pantaloon has entered into a tie up with IOC whereas IOC will set up petrol pumps at the Pantaloon malls and Pantaloon will set up food Bazaar outlets at the IOC petrol pumps.

IOC type is a good news , Pantaloon gets immediate presence at thousands of locations. However just wondering or wanted to know from Basantji, Pantaloon or lets say reliance -retail do have the stregnths in logistics which is going to be an important part of this industry..
I read an article which talked about shortage of skilled manpower in courier industry and hence lot of poaching is happening and the companies have to spend lot of money to retain and attract people , this affects the profitability naturally, would similar thing anticipated in Retail industry?

todays ET runs an article on how retail is growing leaps and
bounds, pantaloon has shown the highest growth in sales 65% but it also
points outthat margins have dipped on the other hand shoppers has shown
an increase in margins but asmaller topline.most of pantaloons growth
has come from new outlets while the old ones have been steady at
25%,now is this not aworrisome factor as evry yr just to sustain growth
they will have to open new stores.could yu pl explainand correct me if
im wrong.
understanding both the power of compound return and the difficulty getting it is the heart and soul of understanding a lot of things

Incorrect to see q-on-q pant was planning for over 1 mill sq feet addition on oct - dec so spent more on salary stocks etc. Cannot hire on 1st OCt for a store that starts on October 01.
Retail will be a Rs 18 lac cr market in 2010 so enough for all to survive.
