following article i found interesting

The JAINS r among the richest and smartest people operating in the stock market and many r guided by their religion in deciding what not to buy. They avoid stocks of companies dealing in leather liquor and even cigarrettes. They also avoid hotel stocks bcoz hotels serve non-vegeterian food and liquor.
According to some estimates, more than$2 trillion or 12% of professional management assets in USA r now aimed at "socially respomsible"companies and avoid "vice stocks" such as tobacco, alcohol, gambling or defence-equipment companies.
The market does not give a damn about what u think about socially responsible investing. After all,you never see an analyst write: The shares of Tata Steel are worth atleast Rs 20 more bcoz of the companys path breaking measures to introduce workers benefits and to maintain Jamshedpur as a model city".In any case, buying shares of ITC from the secondary market doesnt mean you contribute to ITCs prosperity at all. That comes from the smokers.
Go to the other extreme and think of a fund that invest only in vices.Yes there is one.Since Aug 2003,Vice Fund have outperformed the Sierra Club Fund that invest in select stocks that meet "environmental and social criteria".

That was really interesting!Nimesh Shah of Enam does not invest in vice stocks like ITC, Mc Dowell etc and we all know how much money he has made. I think Enam does not cover ITC also.

TELE DATA INFORMATICS AND ITS DEMERGER

Dear Basant Saab what to do!

The general view about the company as I have collected over the period of times is bad amongst brokers / fund analysts. Especially Mr. Damani had an open view of not encouraging buy call against this company. The company pays very poor dividend. Personally myself do have a few shares at a high cost and I am following the company since last two years or even more. Once I had the opportunity to come out with profit but I did not do that considering the following other sides,

1)      So far the announcement made by the company in BSE / NSE is very clear.

2)      The company has a profit in its business and the areas of business with its quality norms (as I get from declaration by the company in BSE / NSE) may be lucrative

3)      I believe the company has grown up over the past few years though I am not sure the detail of the economics and PE multiple etc. about the company.

I would be happy to know whether the proposed de-merger by the company can give some added value to the share holder so that I can hold them over some more times or better to come out when (if/when) I get my money back..

Kindly advise.

I am always doing that which I cannot do, in order that I may learn how to do it. ~Pablo Picasso

Demerger and spin off is like Viagra - Not sure if it would work on anyone who is old. On a more serious note do not get into companies that advertise their financials I think Teledata is one of them. Have very little knowledge on this one but I would like to book losses and take the tax adjustment and get on with something that has a better potential.

GDL Gateway Distriparks - Very good business model, logistics, cold stoarge container traffic etc. I feel  this company needs to be bought and held with a 3 year perspective.
