not many will disagree with the fact that music can be a source of great relaxation from the greats like ravishanker, shiv kumar sharma, to led zepplin and simon and garfunkel any sort of music that suits your taste does have a soothing effect on the mind, scientifically how this works i have no idea.spent the weekend listening in fact blasting 3 LED ZEPPLIN ABLUMS  physical graffiti, the song remains the same, sessions  just amazing music  any zepplin fans around

Yes, music which one likes has great soothing effect. It also helps to keep the 'noise' out!

Amongst the names mentioned by you, I'm a fan of Simon & Garfunkel. "I'd rather be a sparrow than  a snail...", "Like a bridge over troubled waters" et al..

Apart from S&G, I love Beatles &  Bob Dylan in western pop category.

And as far as Indian music goes, I always listen to old hindi film songs & urdu ghazals.

I don't know much about who is a great musician or not, but yes...music gives me a high. Any kind of music...depends on my mood!!!

I play music whenever I'm infront of my computer or in my car. When I was in college, I could not study without music blaring in my Walkman. My favorites are -

- Old Kishore Kumar songs (mostly sad ones like Chingari Koi Badke...)
- Old Dr. Rajkumar's Kannada songs
- Jagjit Singh ghazals

- Hip Hop music from Dr. Dre, The Game, Snoop Dogg, NWA, Eminem
- Enigma/Buddha Bar
- Rock Ballads from Metallica, GNR, Nirvana, Pink Floyd.
- Classics like Hootie & the Blowfish, Billy Joel and Tracy Chapman.
- Modern rockers like Evanescense, Poets of the Fall,  Cranberries etc

My all-time favorite song has to be Piano Man from Billy Joel. Incredible song, incredible music, amazing story & lyrics.

My list is endless. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Enrique remains my all time favourites. I cant live without Music. From Classics, i like Hotel California and Aane wala pal jaane wala hain from Golmaal. I am not much a Rock fan. I get up early in the morning just to tune into Jaggu and Tarana of Radio One, Great music + Great RJ's. They are the highest paid RJs in India.
