livemint has also reported another story that the Govt. of India has proposed to set up an EPZ for traditional indian medicines in partnership with private entrepreneurs to boost overseas sale of ethnic herbs which now stands at Rs. 900 crores. Allocation of funds for development of alternative medicines has been increased from Rs. 1000 crores in 10th Plan to Rs. 3988 crores in 11th Plan.
These reports remind about Plethico Pharma Ltd, a company involved in manufacturing of herbal products.(CMP. Rs.450/-). It has two plants in M.P. and one in SEZ at Kandla , Gujarat. The value added herbal products of the company are exported already in a major way.
The performance for 06-07 was 37% up in sales and 49% in profit, over the previous year. (Source: Capital line). Plethico acquired a U.S. herbal manufacuring marketing company Natrol Inc., sometime back which should open up a substantial export market for the company and pave for earning good margins.
