Feeling nostalgic or patriotic? Look what I found on Youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLCQm0bigfA

Let me know if you got goosebumps too.

I have converted the Youtube video into an mp3 file. You can download 'Mile Sur Mera Tumhara.mp3' (5.1 MB) from here -

This song begins in Hindi but then goes into various Indian languages

(Kashmiri) Chaain taraj tahin nyay taraj
Ek but baniye saayen taraj

(Punjabi) Tera sur mile mere sur de naal
Milke bane ek nava surtaal

(Hindi) Mile sur mera tumharaa....
To sur bane hamaara..

(Sindhi) Mohnja sur tohi desa pyara mile jadein
Geet ashaanjo madhur tarano bane tadein

(Urdu) Sur ka dariya behke saagar me mile
(Punjabi)Badlaan da roop leike barasan hole hole

(Tamil) Isaindhal namm iruvarin suramum namadhakum..
Dhisai veru aanalum aariser aarugal
Mugilai mazaiyai pozivadu pol isai
...Namm isssaiiii....

Thik thakida thathikakidA....thaka thimi thaka junu

(Kannada) Nanna danige ninna daniyu,
Seridante namma daniyu..

(Telugu) Naa swaramu nee swaramu sangammamai,
Mana swaram ga avatarinchey

(Malayalam) Ente swaravum ningalude swaravum
Otthu chernnu nammude swaramai....

(Bengali) Tomaar shoor moder shoor srishti korook oikyashoor...
Tomaar shoor moder shoor srishti korook oikyashoor...

(Assamese) Srishti hok oikyatan
(Oriya) Toma mora swarer milan srishti kare chalbochatano

(Gujarati) Male sur jo taro maro, bane aapno sur niralo

(Marathi) Majhya tumchya julta tara madhur suranchya barasti dhara

(Hindi) Sur ki nadiya har disha se behke saagar mein mile...
Baadlo ka roop leke barse halke halke..
Oh...Mile sur mera tumhara tho....sur bane hamara...

Mile Sur mera tumhara
To sur bane hamara tho sur bane hamara
To sur bane hamara
.......

slowly merges into the tune of Jana Gana Mana, the Indian National Anthem

....jaya he jaya he
jaya jaya jaya he

Thanks for the efforts. Many such songs/melodies have specific memories attached to it....really nostalgic feeling.

Nice! I actually didn't know 'Ek Chidiya' was in colour. We had a Black & White TV at home at that time. Actually, this is the first time I am watching 'Mile Sur Mera Tumhara' in colour.

I was probably 12 years old when 'Mile Sur..' first came out. What I remember about this is that - Me and my 2 brothers used to abandon our dinner mid-way and run and stand infront of the Television when it played - the first time and the hundredth time!

What do all the Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil etc lines mean? Let me explain the Kannada part -

Nanna danige ninna daniyu,
Seridante namma daniyu..

My voice and Your Voice
Meet & become Our Voice..

It is not the exact meaning but it is close.

My voice nd Your Voice
Meet & become unique(Niralo) voice..
ABILITY will get u at d top. CHARACTER will retain u at d top

Hmmmm I guess the larger meaning would go something like this:

When we have harmony, there would be downpour of sweetest surs ...!
