Basantjee
I would invite your views & analysis on Alps Industries (cmp: Rs 130+), a Ghaziabad based company.
- Deals in home furnishings (majority is exports)
- Makes famous "Vista" brand of fancy window panels (Aluminium Composite Panels)
- Consistent financial performance over last few years
- Dividend paying.
- Their GDR listed on Luxomberg Stock Exchange?
- There was equity dilution last year when they came up with FPO (cannot understand why not rights?) at Rs. 120
- They have declared 1:1 Bonus. At present the share is cum bonus as the record date is 25th Sep. Hopefully it indicates management confidenece in future ahead.
- They have leased some textile facility in Uttaranchal from Govt. Indicates prudence in Capex spending?
The company, at present, has four units in Ghaziabad and one in Pondicherry. Textile products contribute 89 per cent and architectural items 11 per cent to the company's turnover. The company sells home furnishings under Vista Home Fashions, fashion accessories under Le Pashmina, office furniture fabric under Response, architectural products under Vista and wooden floorings under the Vista Floor Fashions brand. The company claims to be the market leader with over 30 per cent share in the organised sector of the window covering segment.
Kindly give your opinion.

Some more inputs on ALPS:
- For the booming Malls/Shopping Complex/Multiplex sector: Alps Industries has introduced Vista Glazings, which includes the supply, fabrication and installation of aluminium composite panels (ACP) and other exterior material to redefine the exteriors of any building.
- The company has export clientele consisting of known brands like JC Penny, Gaps, Springs, Park B. Smith etc. Export accounts for about 30% of the revenue and North America and Europe are its key export markets.
-
It makes natural dyes from agriculture waste products, by products like tree barks, flowers, pomegranate peel, harda, etc. These dyes are used for the production of its furnishing fabrics, vents etc. They own two process patents for the manufacture and application of natural dyes. It is one of the few textile companies that have received an ISO14001 certificate for eco friendliness.

A few people whom I know have researched this company but I have never looked at this. From what you have put down Alps seems to be in some very interesting areas and that should keep the growth mommentum going - consumerism will be the course in India as we all know.

Some reports on ALPS
Looks like only UTI tracks this.
FY07 eps 28 & FY08 eps at 40
Currently trading at p/e of around 5. Very badly beaten down during May/06 crash. It came to 80/- from 280/-. Market cap is around 200 Crore.
We need to find growth prospects of this company.

Thanks Lalit.
From PE point of view, it looks attractive. However, detailed financial analysis would give a clearer picture.
