WHy not buy long tenure Bonds, with preferably with high zero coupons, they will also go up if this is all it needs for some of these sasti sarkari banks to perform but there are some good bets also in this space just that right now it isn't too clear as to who the good Samaritans are?

Value in PSU Banks would be out from the hole created by this non-sense govt.

No clear information of effect of Air India loan restructuring on PSU banks is available. Some analysts are making a passing mention to this as if it is no matter at all...
First step towards learning is the realization that you do not know anything.

PSU banks only good for trading. Buy @ 5-7% dividend yield, sell at 20-25% gain or exit if no movement for 3-4 months.

I will never invest long term in a PSU Bank. Actually talking of NPAs, even in private banks you have to be selective.
Good stocks can go down for no reason. Bad stocks can go up for no reason.

No view on HDFC bank. Incidentally he was abuyer in HDFC bank in the late 90's post listing.

Note: This news is not confirmed as I have no access to their contract notes.

He expects large scale defaults to blow up the banking space .

This was in 2009. It would be interesting to learn what happened to Big Bear after this.
