Oddly Technology companies (IT and Biotech) do not make it to the list though they have probabily generated the most amount of wealth in a very short term.

-Historical studies of stock markets in the US have shown that the following sectors created the maximum wealth in the long run
-Pharma (due to strong research and patent protection)
-Consumer Non Durables e.g. FMCG (due to brand and franchise power)
-Financials

Among the Fortune/Forbes Top 50 companies in the World, a large number of them are oil & gas exploration companies (mostly US & Europe based).
Oddly, no other commodity company (steel, cement, iron ore, metals etc) has made it big. |
If we think a little deeper, oil and gas exploration companies are not purely commodity companies, oil marketing are.

The study was done in respect to CAGR over a 50 year period. Read Jermey Segal's "Future for Investors". I think Exxon was there on the list.

were there any rail road companies there in the list,we can use the infra sector as a proxy for that in India, hoping infra/infra financing does well over a 10 yr time frame atleast.
