this seems to be a very old post that you have picked out the latest figures are Mkt Cap Rs 60 lac crores and GDP around Rs 45 lac crores. I'm not sure where this data is available on a regular basis.

What is the significance of this data? Can you predict anything from this?

Basantji,

If 45 lac crore is GDP, 69.6 lac crore marketcap, market is surely overheated by conventional parameters.

India' GDP in INR comes to 62 lakh crore(2009 data,45 conversion rate)

Bse Mcap is meaningless now a days,BSE has more listed scrips but very little turnover( due to negligible derivative vol, as biggies use derivatives as hedge).

I could not find a valid source for NSe mcap so for.

What market cap has to do with turnover of BSE/NSE?
There are many stocks which are listed on BSE only and not on both exchanges. So BSE covers most stock in India, if not all.

barring a few, most of the stocks which are on BSE(and not on NSE) are dubious.
Do u no why NSE was formed?BSE was once known as Brokers Stock Association due to prevailing malpractices.
turnover shows liquidity, that means better price discovery of stocks.
mcap without trading volume is meaningless.

Whatever be the reasons for formation of NSE, or dubiousness of stocks which are BSE only (do you consider HAWKINS, VST TILLERS in this category?), we are discussing about Marketcap and not about the former issues. Since BSE has more stocks than NSE, BSE Marketcap gives us indication of Indian Marketcap.
There could be many good companies in India which are not listed, however it is difficult to have sum of their marketcaps.
